Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of interval training on improving arm muscle endurance among rock climbing athletes at the UKM Mapala Unived. Arm muscle endurance is an important component of physical fitness in rock climbing because it is directly related to an athlete’s ability to maintain muscle strength during climbing activities. The problem addressed in this study was the low level of arm muscle endurance among beginner rock climbing athletes at UKM Mapala Unived, thus requiring an effective training method to improve it. This study used an experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The population of this study consisted of beginner rock climbing athletes at UKM Mapala Unived, with a sample of 10 participants. The research instruments included push-up, pull-up, plank, and dead hang tests to measure arm muscle endurance. The interval training program was conducted for 4 weeks with a training frequency of 3 times per week. The results of this study showed that there was an improvement in arm muscle endurance after the implementation of interval training. This was proven by the results of the t-test, which showed a significance value of 0.05, indicating that the hypothesis was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that interval training had a significant effect on improving arm muscle endurance among beginner rock climbing athletes at UKM Mapala Unived.
